AAHA Accreditation

The Staff of Markham Veterinary Clinic are proud to announce that our clinic has achieved the honour of being accredited by AAHA the American Animal Hospital Association every year since 2012!!!

What Is AAHA Accreditation?

The American Animal Hospital Association is an international association comprised of veterinary care providers who are focused on providing high quality standards for the rapidly changing field of small animal private practice. AAHA is the only organization that accredits animal hospitals throughout the U.S. and Canada. From its inception in 1933, AAHA has been committed to excellence. Today AAHA is respected internationally for its hospital accreditation standards, for its dedication to professional development, and for its education programs.

The AAHA Standards of Accreditation (greater than 900 individual areas of assessment!) are viewed as the benchmark of veterinary excellence. These standards go above and beyond provincial regulations. They are focused on areas that include but are not limited to: patient care and pain management, surgery, anesthesiology, pharmacy, laboratory, exam facilities, medical records, cleanliness, health and safety, dental care, diagnostic imaging, and continuing education.

AAHA Accredited - The Standard of Veterinary Excellence

Why choose to become AAHA accredited?

We voluntarily chose to be evaluated on over 900 standards for many different and individual reasons. However, our primary motivation was to enhance the quality of care we provide to our patients and their families. Knowing that AAHA accredited hospitals must demonstrate an exceptional level of medical care and client service, we all agreed that we wanted to be the best hospital and the best veterinary team we could be! Working together to prepare for our initial evaluation proved to be a powerful team building experience. The accreditation process provided the Markham Veterinary Clinic team members an opportunity to pull together and exhibit pride in our practice.

AAHA importance to you and your pet

The standards that are required for an AAHA accredited hospital are vital for delivering high-quality pet care. They require us to provide a wide range of diagnostic services so we can accurately diagnose and treat your pet. They enhance the quality of care your pet receives in areas such as anesthesia, surgery and emergency care, dentistry, pain management and contagious diseases. The level of medical records required by the AAHA standards more completely document your pet’s entire medical history. The thoroughness of these records allows us to track trends in your pet’s health, helping us evaluate how past health issues might be impacting their current health status. These benchmarks ensure that our onsite pharmacy has a wide range of medications available so we can begin treatment on your pet right away. AAHA Accreditation is a voluntary commitment our practice has made to our clients to work together to help their pets live longer and healthier lives.
