Cats are really popular pets. They’re easy to keep, which is one reason they’re so popular. In fact, out of all of the animals we’ve domesticated, Fluffy may very well be the most independent. Your kitty isn’t entirely self-sufficient, though. A local vet lists a few things your furry pal needs in this article.
Food
The foundation of any good pet care routine starts with good nutrition. While buying Fluffy’s food isn’t rocket science, there are things to keep in mind. You’ll need to decide whether to feed kibble, wet food, or both. It’s also important to pick a good food, one that’s appropriate for your kitty’s lifestyle, age, and health. Ask your vet for recommendations.
Water
Hydration is critical to your feline pal’s survival, but it’s also important for her overall health. Since many cats prefer to drink running water, you might want to get Fluffy a fountain. And put extra water in the bowls if you have more than one kitty, and/or let your furry buddy go out.
Beds
Our feline friends are all unique individuals, but a love of naps is one thing they all have in common. Fluffy may spend as much as 20 hours a day snoozing! Offer your sleepy pet lots of comfy napping spots and beds. (That includes lap space.)
Toys/Enrichment
Fluffy can’t spend all of her time sleeping. She will need stimulation and enrichment. Be sure to offer her plenty of playthings. Cats all have their own unique tastes, so take notice of what your feline buddy prefers.
Veterinary Care
Our feline overlords tend to be fairly hardy, but they still need great health care to thrive. Fluffy needs regular exams, as well as vaccines and parasite control. We also recommend getting her spayed or neutered and microchipped.
Grooming
Most cats do a good at keeping themselves clean. However, longhaired kitties do need some help here. And as she ages, Fluffy will need more assistance with her beauty regime.
Kitty Must-Haves
A clean litterbox is at the top of this list! Fluffy will also appreciate catnip, kitty furniture, scratching posts, and, of course, the occasional empty box.
Love
Love is that special ingredient here. Pay attention to Fluffy and spend time with her. Pet her, talk to her, pet her, and offer her lap space. Purrs are truly precious!
