Reasons to Play With Your Cat

February 1, 2021

Our feline friends are very playful, which makes them such cute and fun pets. As it turns out, those kitty zoomies are important for many more reasons than just keeping us entertained. Pouncing and jumping is actually very good for Fluffy! A local vet lists some benefits of playing with your cat below.

Activity

Cats are collectively very, very tired for some reason. (We’re not entirely convinced being cute is actually that exhausting, but that’s another topic.) Playing gives Fluffy a great kitty workout, which will help her stay physically fit and strong. Plus, it’s cute to watch!

Entertainment

When Fluffy is actually awake, she’ll need something to occupy herself with other than just staring at you. Our furry overlords can and do get bored! Running after that elusive red dot is a great way for your cute pet to break up her day. It also gives her something fun to do between naps.

Bonding

We love to joke about how cold and aloof cats are, but that really isn’t fair. Our feline friends are just as loving and affectionate as dogs are! Kitties really do appreciate the love and care we give them. Playing with Fluffy will help her feel loved, which is very important. If you have two cats, play sessions can also help them bond more closely.

Therapy

Just like people, cats can suffer from emotional and mental health issues, such as stress, anxiety, depression, and loneliness. A fun play session will allow your furry buddy to take her angst out on a toy, instead of on you. Think of this as the kitty version of a good kickboxing workout. After burning off her frustration, Fluffy will be calmer and (hopefully) ready for cuddles.

Comic Relief

Who says that playing with your cat only benefits her? It’s almost impossible not to chuckle at some of Fluffy’s hilarious antics. Kitties somehow manage to get even funnier when they think they are being serious, which only makes them more amusing.

Mental Stimulation

Playing is also good for your feline friend’s mind. Your frisky pet has to really concentrate to nail those tricky run/jump/roll/meow combos. That focus stimulates her brain, which can help ward off cognitive decay as she ages.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns about your kitty’s health or care. We’re here to help!
