Please meet sweet Sheila, our pet of the month.
Sheila is an 11 year old, Miniature Dachshund. Both Sheila and her “mum” are inseparable. Being an astute “mum”, her owner immediately noticed that Sheila appeared sore and was not eating well. Her examination showed that Sheila had neck and back pain. Working diagnosis at that time was spinal disease; a condition that Miniature Dachshunds are predisposed to. Sheila had x-rays done of her neck and back. X-rays confirmed that Sheila’s neck pain was secondary to muscular strain but there was also another surprising discovery. A suspicious mineralization was seen within her abdomen. An abdominal ultrasound was performed by our mobile internal medicine specialist. She confirmed that Sheila had ingested a foreign body.
Sheila had an exploratory surgery to remove a stone from her stomach. She has recovered very well from her surgery and is back home, cuddling right next to her mum.
