Social Petworking Month

June 1, 2022

Have you heard that June is Social Petworking Month? One of the best things about the rise of the internet, at least in our opinion, is the endless line of  cute pet pictures and funny animal videos we can find online. As it turns out, social media has also had quite an effect on Fluffy and Fido. A local vet offers some insight on this below.

A Good Cause

You don’t have to wait for a special occasion to post cute pet pictures. However, if you wanted one, Social Petworking Day definitely fits the bill. This unofficial holiday was created to help homeless pets get adopted. If you want to help, share posts about local pets that are looking for homes. You can change a pet’s life with a few keystrokes! Even liking posts or photos made by local shelters will help. Although the actual algorithms are still quite mysterious, liking a post helps it achieve more visibility, so more people will see it.

Pet Photos

Does your dog or cat have a habit of looking totally cute, only to move as soon as you get your camera? Try downloading a pet photo app. Many of these have presets that work very well at taking animal photos. We also would recommend using a background that contrasts with your pet’s fur … unless, of course, you have a black cat and you’re going for that ‘kitty void’ look that only shows Fluffy’s eyes.

Offline Petworking

Lots of networking is done online these days. However, this is a good opportunity to offer some information about interacting with pets in real life. If you come across someone with a cute dog that seems friendly, it’s alright to ask if you can pet it. Though never do this with working dogs or pups that seem uneasy.

Pets Online

Quite a few of our furry pals have their own social media pages. There are even some pets that qualify as real social media celebrities, such as Azuki, the unbelievably cute hedgehog. You can also find many social media accounts made by celebrities for their own pets. Some of those ‘influencers’ include the pets of Matthew Perry, Amanda Seyfried, and Paris Hilton. If your furry friend has a social media account, don’t forget to share some social petworking posts this month!
