Forrest is a very handsome 3 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who is also a champion show dog! He was in for an examination at Markham Veterinary Clinic for a loose tooth. Forrest’s owner is very diligent in brushing his teeth and using water additives to help with dental hygiene. We did preoperative bloodwork and did a full dental cleaning and polishing (COHAT- Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment). We did dental xrays of all his teeth and found decay in multiple teeth! He needed 16 teeth extracted due to decay! This was very surprising as he is only 3 years old and Forrest’s mom practices great dental care. It shows the importance of dental radiographs to check for decay as we were only able to see 1 loose tooth on physical examination. Forrest must feel so much better now that all his decayed teeth have been removed!
